COD Offers Field Studies Trip to Italy this Winter

College of DuPage is offering a new class that will include an international trip to explore the educational system in Italy this winter from Jan. 9 to 18, 2018.

During "Italy: Exploring an International School System," participants will travel to Bologna, Florence, Rome and Venice and meet with teachers and officials to gain insight into Italy's school system at all levels, including early childhood, elementary, high school and higher education. Participants also will learn about Italian culture through tours to a variety of landmarks, including Campanile, the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square, the Pantheon, Piazza della Signoria and Vatican City.

"This class will be a great opportunity for students to be immersed in Italian culture through the eyes of their school system and will explore early childhood through postsecondary education," said COD Teacher Preparation Associate Professor April Zawlocki. "Exploring a school system outside of the U.S. is particularly helpful to future teachers, parents and anyone who works with children because it is a chance to gain a global perspective on education. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to be further immersed in the culture through visiting historic sites and learning more about them."

This three-credit-hour course includes classroom sessions at COD on Thursdays, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 7. In addition to tuition for the class, the trip is available for a fee of $4,105, which includes air and land transportation, hotels, entrance fees and most meals.
