- Dancer and choreographer Altin Naska of Naperville has created strong alliances and relationships in the international dance community during his more than 30 years of performing. Choreographer and founder and artistic director of Chicago's Southport Performing Arts Conservatory, Naska is in his sixth year of working with the Moscow Ballet to audition talented Chicago-area dancers to perform alongside esteemed dance professionals in the annual production of "The Great Russian Nutcracker." - Since 1909 when W.D. Boyce brought scouting to America, the guiding principles of the Boy Scouts of America has remained the same; preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Deicke Scout Shop, which is operated by the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council, supports the mission of scouting through its large inventory of uniforms, camping equipment, achievement recognitions and more. Plus, the shop serves as a resource center for information and registration of upcoming group outings and activities of the Three Fires Council. In 2010, 357 Eagle Scouts, 16,304 Cub Scouts, 6,574 Boy Scouts, 708 Venturers, and 1,547 Explorers were registered members; plus the Council is proud to serve one of the largest special needs packs in the country. - James R. Seeds, MD of the Midwest Bone & Joint Institute (back center) is joined by the children of Arnett C. Lines Elementary School in Barrington at the "Halloween Hustle" race. - On Saturday, January 28th, Saint Hubert School Cub Scout Pack 399 gathered for the beloved annual Pinewood Derby event. The Cub Scouts spent many hours in the past month designing, carving, painting, and weighing their cars in hopes that it would be the fastest or best in show. In the end, Hoffman Estates resident and Saint Hubert 2nd grader Ty Schafers vehicle took the coveted prize. Ty commented, It was exciting, and I am looking forward to the District race. Tys car, along with the other top racers in the Pack, will be competing against other Cub Scouts in the district on March 10th at the Sears Centre Arena. National History Day Quest Academy finalists from left to right: Frani O’Toole, West Dundee; Marissa Howe, Hoffman Estates; Jenna Chin, Inverness; Birkan Cetinkaya, Vernon Hills; Advith Chelikani, Palatine; Max Kontorovich, Buffalo Grove; Owen Chang, Barrington. These seven students from Quest Academy, Palatine, beat out thousands to earn spots at the recent annual National History Day competition held at the University of Maryland June 12-16. Here, the Quest students displayed their papers, documentaries and websites to compete against participants from all over the globe. Schools from the United States, Guam, American Samoa, China, as well as Department of Defense Schools in Europe had students who qualified to participate. Top finishers from Quest include Marissa Howe, 7th grade, who placed 10th in the nation for her individual documentary, “The Attempted Nazi March in Skokie: Freedom for the Speech We Hate,” and Jenna Chin, 8th grade, who placed 11th in the nation for her paper, “The Escobedo v. Illinois Supreme Court Case.”

- William White explains to Daniel Hoff, Dawn Mattson and Linda Mattson how the VetDog program has enhanced his life. William has had his Labrador Retriever VetDog, Rudy, for a few years. Rudy helps him swim and get out of the pool and with everyday activities. William lost his arm and leg while serving as a Sergeant in the Marines.
