- The Choral-aires Chorus placed second in the Community Teams category raising funds for breast cancer research last month, missing first place by only $25. The chorus raised $3,985 by the time the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure rolled around, with more donations still coming, surpassing their original goal of $3,000. The Choral-Aires has five current chorus members that either have, or have had, breast cancer. And this year, 2 of the team members discovered that their mothers have breast cancer, so they were walking on race day for their moms. One member of our team, Kara Gray, celebrated her 10 years without breast cancer this year. While not a Chorus member, she is the daughter of long-time member Martha Anderson, who also walked with the team on race day. Lindsey Herza

Sunday's concert was offered as part of the Phyllis A. Lange-Connelly Memorial Lenten Recital Series, now in its 19 year. The Spirit Ringers are comprised of 13 students from Huntley, Crystal Lake South, and Jacobs high schools. Under the direction of Music and Worship director Jane McMullen, the group has been playing together practicing weekly and playing several times a year during worship services at Shepherd of the Prairie. In July 2012, the group attended the Handbell Musicians of Americas National Seminar in Cincinnati, Ohio where they took part in the Distinctly Teen portion and participated in an ensemble of more than 300 handbell musicians ringing the national anthem for a Cincinnati Reds game at the Great American Ballpark. Amazing people as well as gifted musicians, many of these students are active in additional music programs, including choirs, bands, and private music instruction Sheri Ott (one of the mothers sent the picture)
