CLC holds memorial ceremony with Naval Station Great Lakes
The sixth annual College of Lake County Memorial Day ceremony took place at noon Friday, at the college's Willow Lake Veterans Memorial on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The outdoor ceremony sponsored by the CLC Veterans Memorial Task Force Committee was held with the help of staff from Naval Station Great Lakes.

More charges filed against former Antioch EMT
Updated May 23, 2013 4:15 PMA former Antioch-area volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician already facing charges of having sex with an underage girl, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges involving a second victim. Matthew Bielecki, 40, of the 43000 block of Mary Avenue in Antioch, shook his head in shock as each of the new 29 counts of sex-related crimes were described to him by Lake County Judge James Booras.

Antioch Rescue Squad, village splitting up
Updated May 22, 2013 11:38 AMAntioch Rescue Squad, which became embroiled in controversy about a year ago, and Antioch village government are ending their longtime marriage. Village officials say they were surprised to learn the rescue squad declined a six-month extension. “After all the village has done to support ARS as it worked its way through sex scandals, alcohol and drug abuse, ARS slapped its partners in the face,” the Antioch mayor said.

COD paves new way to earn bachelor's degree
Updated May 20, 2013 4:20 PMNine students will walk across the stage Sunday at Lewis University's commencement ceremony to receive bachelor's degrees in criminal justice. Yet, these students never took classes at the school's campus in Romeoville. Through a so-called 3+1 program partnership between Lewis and College of DuPage, the students earned their four-year degrees from Lewis by taking all their classes at COD's campus in Glen Ellyn.

- The Choral-aires Chorus placed second in the Community Teams category raising funds for breast cancer research last month, missing first place by only $25. The chorus raised $3,985 by the time the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure rolled around, with more donations still coming, surpassing their original goal of $3,000. The Choral-Aires has five current chorus members that either have, or have had, breast cancer. And this year, 2 of the team members discovered that their mothers have breast cancer, so they were walking on race day for their moms. One member of our team, Kara Gray, celebrated her 10 years without breast cancer this year. While not a Chorus member, she is the daughter of long-time member Martha Anderson, who also walked with the team on race day. Lindsey Herza
- On Jan. 21, Elmhurst City Clerk Patty Spencer presented the Choral-Aires Chorus with a proclamation declaring January "Sweet Adelines Month." The Choral-Aires, an Elmhurst-based Sweet Adelines International chapter, is hosting Guest Nights each Monday in January from 6:45-9:45 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Recreation Center as part of the SAI Global Open House event.
