COD paves new way to earn bachelor's degree
Nine students will walk across the stage Sunday at Lewis University's commencement ceremony to receive bachelor's degrees in criminal justice. Yet, these students never took classes at the school's campus in Romeoville. Through a so-called 3+1 program partnership between Lewis and College of DuPage, the students earned their four-year degrees from Lewis by taking all their classes at COD's campus in Glen Ellyn.

DuPage adjunct professors get contract extension, raises
Updated May 17, 2013 12:19 AMAdjunct professors at the College of DuPage are set to receive salary increases as part of a two-year contract extension approved Thursday by the college’s board of trustees. College officials offered the contract extension to adjuncts as a package along with a plan to create a new “lecturer” position that would allow some adjuncts to receive health care benefits under the new federal health care law.

Updated May 20, 2013 10:58 PMAlise Perna singled in Laura Senese with the game-winning run, Metea Valley rallying with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to win a wild 8-7 Class 4A Bolingbrook regional game over West Aurora on Monday in Aurora.West Aurora had taken a 7-6 lead with two outs in the top of the seventh, Kaylee Hayton’s 2-run homer capping a 10 pitch at-bat.Monica Jauch singled to start Metea’s half of the seventh, Jenna Hall sacrificed her to second and with two outs Senese doubled her in. Perna, who was 4-for-5 with a homer, triple, 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, followed with the walkoff hit. Alexa Caputo was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Mustangs (11-21), who advance to play Benet today in Bolingbrook.Willowbrook 3, Glenbard South 2:Darian Pelsor scattered 4 hits and a walk, striking out 1, and Sam Schmidt drove in 2 runs for the Warriors (23-9), who won their sixth straight game to end the regular season. Tarah Valdez’s 2-run double accounted for the scoring for Glenbard South (24-5). Stephanie Chitkowski (13-2) struck out 15.Montini 6, Lemont 4:Alyssa Sclafani hit a 2-run homer, her 10th of the year, and Emily Lezcano also went deep with a 2-run shot in Montini’s 4-run first inning in Lombard. Sara Ross went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored for the Broncos (25-10).WW South 13, East Aurora 0:Jenny Harbakus went 2-for-2 with a run scored and 3 RBI and Sammy Granger doubled and drove in 3 runs for the Tigers (15-14), who advanced to play Waubonsie Valley at the Class 4A Yorkville regional.West Chicago 12, Larkin 3:Becky Cabral homered for the Wildcats, who advanced to play St. Charles North, in a Class 4A first-round game in West Chicago.Wheaton North 7, Dundee-Crown 4:The Falcons, who advance to play Glenbard North, scored 3 runs in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth in a Class 4A first-round game in Wheaton. Kelly Thornton doubled for Wheaton North.

Sam Hanson, Andrew Fox and Connor Archey each had 2 RBI. Addison Trail 4, Streamwood 3:The Blazers (11-24) scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and advance to the Class 4A Wheaton North regional semifinals. Jordan Garcia and Joe Kurucar had 2 hits apiece while winning pitcher Anthony Infantino struck out seven. Glenbard East 10, Conant 1:Leadoff hitter Mike Hansen went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and 3 RBI as the Rams (13-22) won in the Class 4A Geneva regional quarterfinals. Joe Kotch added 3 RBI and Nick Vichio doubled twice. D.J. Spears struck out nine in a 4-hitter. Wheaton Academy 6, Genoa-Kingston 0:A 3-0 lead after two innings was plenty of support for winning pitcher Jake Cousins, who struck out six, allowed 1 hit and walked none for the Warriors (7-20) in the Class 3A Burlington Central regional quarterfinals. Sam Perna had 2 of Wheaton Academy’s 5 hits. Schaumburg 4, West Chicago 2:Connor Dall and Dave Kordik drove in runs for the Wildcats (4-25), who fell in the Class 4A Schaumburg regional quarterfinals.Neuqua Valley 9, Benet 7:Trailing 7-3 heading to the sixth inning, Neuqua Valley (25-9) scored twice in the sixth and added 4 runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the nonconference victory. Dylan Goss homered and drove in 2 runs. Matt Butler went 3-for-4 while Cody Coll and Matt Wollnik had 2 RBI. Jonathan Vlk picked up the win in relief. Pat McInerney went 2-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBI for Benet (21-9).Glenbard North 7, York 5:The Panthers (19-11) closed the regular season by winning for the fifth time in six games. Ryan Storto went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles. Brandon Kressner and Dom Fornino each drove in 2 runs. Winning pitcher Luke Greenberg scattered 7 hits over 6 innings. River Pitlock went 2-for-4 for York (15-19).Willowbrook 16, Glenbard West 14:The Warriors (22-10) won a wild one in their final regular-season game. Dom Bataglia went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Steven Ferguson went 3-for-5 and Jeremy Kucik drove in 3 runs. Spencer Refer, Tyler Dayton and Dennis Rudolph had 3 hits apiece for Glenbard West (13-19).Glenbard South 2, Burlington Central 0:Ethan Gasbarro improved to 6-2 on the mound by striking out 11 in a 2-hitter over 6 innings. Carl Sanders, Justin Joseph, Will Cornwell and Mike Atkinson had 2 hits apiece.Waubonsie Valley 16, Sycamore 6:Ben Vietri exploded for a double, home run and 6 RBI while going 4-for-5 for the victorious Warriors (18-14). Tyler Hasper, Tad Wegner and Troy Fumagalli had 2 RBI. Batavia 6, Wheaton North 5:Batavia scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to claim victory in the playoff tuneup. Johnny Peltz and Lake Bachar, who drove in 3 runs, homered for Wheaton North (24-8).

- The Choral-aires Chorus placed second in the Community Teams category raising funds for breast cancer research last month, missing first place by only $25. The chorus raised $3,985 by the time the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure rolled around, with more donations still coming, surpassing their original goal of $3,000. The Choral-Aires has five current chorus members that either have, or have had, breast cancer. And this year, 2 of the team members discovered that their mothers have breast cancer, so they were walking on race day for their moms. One member of our team, Kara Gray, celebrated her 10 years without breast cancer this year. While not a Chorus member, she is the daughter of long-time member Martha Anderson, who also walked with the team on race day. Lindsey Herza
- On Jan. 21, Elmhurst City Clerk Patty Spencer presented the Choral-Aires Chorus with a proclamation declaring January "Sweet Adelines Month." The Choral-Aires, an Elmhurst-based Sweet Adelines International chapter, is hosting Guest Nights each Monday in January from 6:45-9:45 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Recreation Center as part of the SAI Global Open House event. George and Sarah Naxera of Kildeer sample mouth-watering morsels from 20 local restaurants at Clearbrook's fourth annual "Around the World Food Tasting" on Oct. 16 at Arlington Toyota-Scion in Palatine. Proceeds from the event went to the 3,400 children and adults with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental/intellectual disabilities that Clearbrook serves. - First- and second-graders at the Immanuel Lutheran School in Elmhurst enjoyed telling the Christmas story with residents at Greencastle Assisted Living. The students sang songs and recited Scripture. They also discussed the Advent wreath and illustrated pictures of it, and listened to "The Night Before Christmas" with the residents. - Friday, April 12, 2013, Joey won the 139 lb Golden Glove Championship held at Cicero Stadium. He fought three (3) fights to get to this championship. Joey was also the 2011 Chicago Park District Champion and 2012 Junior Olympic Champion. Joey's trainers are his grandfather, former Illinois Attorney General and Golden Glove Champion Jim Ryan along with Joey's father John Ryan, also a former boxer Chicago Golden Gloves

December 12, 2012Alexandra Blomgren of Oak Park recently helped spread some holiday cheer to residents of Deborahs Place, a 184-unit housing facility in Chicago, as a way of helping to break the cycle of homelessness. Several Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) physicians wives and their friends served a holiday meal and distributed necessary toiletries and household items to the facilitys residents. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Spouses and Significant Others, is an organization with a goal of providing help to families in need. The MOR spouses also donated prizes for and ran the BINGO game for residents.
Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush was named the top orthopedic practice in Illinois by U.S. News & World Report.
Deborahs Place is Chicagos largest provider of supportive housing exclusively for women and is recognized as an innovative leader among homeless service providers locally and nationally. Lisa Stafford -
