Some COD part-time faculty will get health care
Updated May 9, 2013 6:02 PMThough the impact of new federal health care guidelines remains unclear, College of DuPage officials say they're planning to provide benefits to some part-time professors. The college will create the new position of "lecturer" — a nontenured adjunct faculty member who will teach more classes than the average adjunct professor, but still fewer classes than a full-time professor. The new designation would allow lecturers to be eligible for health care insurance, officials said.

Jimmy Nashert pitched a 3-hitter. Schank also homered while Nicky Lopez went 3-for-3. Jon Michiels doubled and drove in the lone run for West Chicago (4-22, 1-18).Benet 3, Marian Catholic 1:The Redwings (19-7, 10-4) moved a step closer toward the East Suburban Catholic title after lone runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie. Joe Boyle, who went 2-for-3, Kevin Jendra and Tim Veselik drove in runs in support of winning pitcher Tony Predey. Robert Haemmerle notched the save. Neuqua Valley 7, Bartlett 1:The Wildcats (23-8, 20-5) won their ninth straight game while closing out their Upstate Eight Conference schedule. Three runs in the fifth inning and another 3 runs in the sixth helped Neuqua Valley pull ahead. Mike Riesner went 3-for-4 while Jeff Evak and Alex Wolanski drove in 2 runs apiece. Jonathan Vlk was the complete-game winning pitcher. Glenbard North 13, Naperville North 3:The Panthers (16-10, 13-6) ended the DuPage Valley Conference game in six innings after eight players had hits and seven players drove in runs. Nolan Jasinski, Jeff LaPage, Adam Villanueva and Matt Stencel each had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Kyle Crites was the winning pitcher. Carson Brown and Mark Khoury went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Naperville North (15-10, 11-8).Timothy Christian 14, Northridge Prep 0:The Trojans (7-14) advanced to the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional semifinals after scoring 5 runs in the first inning and 9 runs in the third. Joe Kotch drove in Glenbard East’s lone run in the fourth inning.St. Joseph 10, Wheaton Academy 5:Kyle Uitermarkt drove in 3 runs while Sam Perna and Dylan Hughes each had 2 hits for the Warriors (5-19) in their nonconference loss.Hinsdale Central 3, Downers North 2:The Red Devils (15-11, 10-8) held off a seventh-inning rally to top Downers North (18-9, 12-6) in the West Suburban Silver. Matt Muellner went 2-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBI. Chris Bokich pitched 6 innings to earn the win. Joe Provenzano homered and had 2 RBI for the Trojans.

- The Choral-aires Chorus placed second in the Community Teams category raising funds for breast cancer research last month, missing first place by only $25. The chorus raised $3,985 by the time the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure rolled around, with more donations still coming, surpassing their original goal of $3,000. The Choral-Aires has five current chorus members that either have, or have had, breast cancer. And this year, 2 of the team members discovered that their mothers have breast cancer, so they were walking on race day for their moms. One member of our team, Kara Gray, celebrated her 10 years without breast cancer this year. While not a Chorus member, she is the daughter of long-time member Martha Anderson, who also walked with the team on race day. Lindsey Herza
- On Jan. 21, Elmhurst City Clerk Patty Spencer presented the Choral-Aires Chorus with a proclamation declaring January "Sweet Adelines Month." The Choral-Aires, an Elmhurst-based Sweet Adelines International chapter, is hosting Guest Nights each Monday in January from 6:45-9:45 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Recreation Center as part of the SAI Global Open House event. George and Sarah Naxera of Kildeer sample mouth-watering morsels from 20 local restaurants at Clearbrook's fourth annual "Around the World Food Tasting" on Oct. 16 at Arlington Toyota-Scion in Palatine. Proceeds from the event went to the 3,400 children and adults with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental/intellectual disabilities that Clearbrook serves. - First- and second-graders at the Immanuel Lutheran School in Elmhurst enjoyed telling the Christmas story with residents at Greencastle Assisted Living. The students sang songs and recited Scripture. They also discussed the Advent wreath and illustrated pictures of it, and listened to "The Night Before Christmas" with the residents. - Friday, April 12, 2013, Joey won the 139 lb Golden Glove Championship held at Cicero Stadium. He fought three (3) fights to get to this championship. Joey was also the 2011 Chicago Park District Champion and 2012 Junior Olympic Champion. Joey's trainers are his grandfather, former Illinois Attorney General and Golden Glove Champion Jim Ryan along with Joey's father John Ryan, also a former boxer Chicago Golden Gloves

December 12, 2012Alexandra Blomgren of Oak Park recently helped spread some holiday cheer to residents of Deborahs Place, a 184-unit housing facility in Chicago, as a way of helping to break the cycle of homelessness. Several Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) physicians wives and their friends served a holiday meal and distributed necessary toiletries and household items to the facilitys residents. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Spouses and Significant Others, is an organization with a goal of providing help to families in need. The MOR spouses also donated prizes for and ran the BINGO game for residents.
Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush was named the top orthopedic practice in Illinois by U.S. News & World Report.
Deborahs Place is Chicagos largest provider of supportive housing exclusively for women and is recognized as an innovative leader among homeless service providers locally and nationally. Lisa Stafford -
