Supportive housing plan passes hurdle; Palatine council next
The Catherine Alice Gardens permanent supportive housing development got a boost from the Palatine Plan Commission, which — after more than five hours of debate and testimony — supported the property’s required rezoning. The commission voted 7 to 1 at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday to recommend preliminary approval for the planned development at 345 N. Eric Drive.Last Updated Jun 19, 2013 4:26 PM -
Downtown Palatine retailers to hold sidewalk sale
Updated Jun 19, 2013 6:05 PMSeveral retailers in downtown Palatine will hold a sidewalk sale starting Thursday, June 20, through Saturday, June 22. Hours vary by store but are generally 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the Downtown Palatine Business Association.

Palatine planners back apartments for disabled despite divided crowd
Updated Jun 19, 2013 11:16 AMThe Palatine plan commission recommended rezoning land near downtown to accommodate apartments to support people with disabilities, despite a divided meeting. “There's little evidence to support neighbors' fears that supportive housing developments will reduce the price of surrounding properties over time,” a project manager said. “Let me know you respect my business,” a business owner countered.

Lost Palatine Golden retriever back home
Updated Jun 19, 2013 4:34 AMBailee, the golden retriever believed to be stolen after wandering from her family's Palatine-area home on Saturday, has been returned. Owner Mike Gerdes said a woman called him Tuesday afternoon after seeing the article in the Daily Herald and brought Bailee to his house shortly after.

The Bulldogs were successful in the Elite division of the Mid Suburban Baseball League where they came in third place overall in the MSBL Elite division championship June 18-24. They also took first place in the Lucchese Tournament in Palatine May 18-20. On their best run of the season, at the Battle at the Beach tournament in Muskegon, Mich. July 6-8, they went 6-0, winning the championship and outscoring their opponents 69-13. The team is managed by Jeff Refka and coached by Steve Hajdukovic, Marc LaGasse and Bernie Schaeffer. Twelve-year-old Audrey Birk of Palatine gets a celebratory high five from Chicago Bears mascot Staley as she crosses the finish line of the 10th annual Midtown 5K Run & Walk held Sept. 29.
