See cricket match, learn about Indian American culture at Sunday fair

The South Barrington Cricket Team and the Fenders will compete at the "Cricket Mela" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the South Barrington Club, 3 Tennis Club Lane, South Barrington. Admission is free, with parking at the nearby AMC theater lot.

This celebration of the diverse heritage of Indian Americans coincides with "Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation" exhibition at the Field Museum daily through Jan. 7.

Organized by the Indian American Heritage Museum, the "Cricket Mela" features a raffle, refreshments, a kite fly, and explanations of cricket rules during the match between the South Barrington Cricket Team and the Fenders.

Several local businesses are providing prizes for raffle winners.

This fair occurs in conjunction with the recently opened "Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation" exhibition created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service augmented by a local exhibition produced by the Indo-American Heritage Museum.

This exhibition explores the cultural heritage, daily experiences, and many contributions that Indians and Indian Americans have made in the United States. Visitors also will learn about Chicago's diverse Indian American heritage through oral histories and artifacts contributed by the local community.

The exhibition, co-presented in Chicago by The Field Museum and the Indo-American Heritage Museum is generously supported by the Chicago Community Trust.
