College of DuPage to Screen Films Celebrating 33rd Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival
The Latino Outreach Center at College of DuPage will screen two films as part of the 2017 Chicago Latino Film Festival beginning on April 26.
All screenings are free and open to the public. The films will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Belushi Performance Hall in the McAninch Arts Center.
Sugar Fields/Flor de Azúcar: Wednesday, April 26. The Dominican Republic's official entry to the Best Foreign Language Category at this year's Oscars®, this ambitious adaptation of Juan Bosch's short story "Encarnación Mendoza's Christmas Eve" follows the lives of two peasant couples in the island's sugar cane fields in the late 1940s.
On the Roof/El Techo: Wednesday, May 3. Three good friends meet every day on the roof of one of Havana's decaying buildings to while away the hours: pigeon breeder Yasmani; Ani, who's several months pregnant; and Vito who is obsessed with his grandfather's Sicilian heritage. Patricia Ramos' laid back, funny, slice-of-life debut captures a side of Havana life rarely seen on the big screen.
