College of DuPage March 'Images' Highlights 50th Anniversary Celebration, Black History Month

"Images," College of DuPage's monthly one-half hour television show, features in its March edition segments on the College's yearlong 50th anniversary celebration and COD's recent celebration of Black History Month.

Each month, Images highlights the personalities, news and curriculum of a vibrant College of DuPage campus. The show airs on 13 area cable television stations.

The March Images highlights the College's ongoing 50th anniversary celebration. Chartered in 1965 and opening its doors in 1967, College of DuPage was originally formed from 10 high school districts. Since that time, it has evolved and grown into a modern, state-of-the-art institution that has provided high-quality instruction to more than one million students over the past 50 years.

Today, College of DuPage is an accredited community college that serves more than 27,000 students each term. The College, which grants nine associate degrees and more than 170 certificates in 100 areas of study, is the second largest provider of public undergraduate education in Illinois.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary and its continued service to the residents of District 502, greater DuPage County and beyond, the College will host several on- and off-campus events to highlight the institution's robust history and continued service to students and District 502 residents over the past half-century.

In addition, the College is celebrating the McAninch Arts Center's 30th anniversary, WDCB's 40th anniversary, and the COD Foundation's 50th anniversary.

The March Images also highlights the kickoff celebration for Black History Month featuring a foot-stomping performance by the African Dance and Music Institute. Traditional drums and instruments, wind chimes, a tambourine, saxophone and beautiful voices entertained more than 150 students, employees and community members with songs from West Africa, the Island of Jamaica and soothing sounds of jazz and the blues. Audience members participated in singing together the Black National Anthem performed by the COD Chamber Singers and led by Music Director and Professor Lee Kesselman, followed by comments from David Swope, COD Manager of Student Diversity and Inclusion, COD President Dr. Ann Rondeau and Michael Childress of the NAACP of DuPage County.

Images airs at various times on cable television stations in Downers Grove, Wheaton, Addison, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Lemont, Elk Grove, Darien, Aurora and West Chicago. Check local cable listings for times and channels.
