COD College Theater Presents 'The Ballad of the Sad Café' March 2 to 19

College of DuPage College Theater presents Edward Albee's adaptation of Carson McCullers' twisted love triangle, "The Ballad of the Sad Café," on Thursday,

March 2, to Sunday, March 19, in the Studio Theatre of the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Years after Miss Amelia throws her husband, Marvin Macy, out of her house on their wedding night, Marvin returns to town and finds Amelia now showering her dwarf cousin, Lymon, with affection. Tensions run high and after Lymon falls in love with Marvin, the estranged husband and wife must settle their differences with their bare hands in front of the whole town.

"Each main character loves one another for very different reasons, but I think each reason is one we can identify with," said Director Brad Lawrence. "This story is compelling because it looks at love through unfamiliar lenses. It posits that love isn't always a positive force, or even a benign one. Love has consequences, and rarely are relationships equitable in terms of feeling and power. I hope audience members will reflect on their current and past relationships, people they have loved or were loved by, and decide if what Albee and McCullers say about love is true."

Tickets are $12 for students and seniors and $14 for adults. A pre-show discussion with Lawrence and the designers is set for 6:45 p.m. Thursday, March 2. A post-show discussion with Lawrence and the cast is scheduled for Friday, March 10. Click here for a full list of the cast and crew.

Support is made possible by a generous gift from the College of DuPage Foundation's Dr. Donald and Helen (Gum) Westlake Fund for Student Productions.
