COD Cross-Country Competes in National Tournament Nov. 12

With outstanding performances at the National Junior College Athletic Association Regionals last month, the College of DuPage men's and women's cross-country teams head to the NJCAA Division I national competition Nov. 12 in El Dorado, Kansas.

Liz Alcantara (21:15.4) and Marco Martinez (28:05.2) took first place in the women's and men's Division I regional competition, respectively. Among the overall Region IV results, Alcantara placed third and Martinez first.

Among the women, the College had four runners finish in the top 10 in Division I, including Alcantara, Amanda Jones (21:28.5), Fatima Chaurdry (21:32.5) and Kenia Sanchez (21:48.3). Jones, Chaurdry and Sanchez were also top 10 overall finishers.

In men's results, Martinez was joined by fellow Chaparrals Logan Fraker (29:02.3) and Torraine Haughton (29:21.8) in the top 10 overall finishers.

Other Chaparrals finishing in the top 30 include men's team members Trevor Nold (30:08.7), Henry Dahl (30:10.3), Bradley Wilcoxen (30:36.2) and John Walker (31:25.5) and women's team members Cristal Alcantara (22:40.0), Yennifer Ortiz (23:40.7) and Sarah Volle (24:09.4)

College of DuPage is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, National Junior College Athletic Association Region IV and North Central Community College Conference (N4C). The College's Athletics program offers eight men's and seven women's sports teams each year, including track and field, cross country, football, volleyball, golf, basketball, tennis, baseball, softball and soccer. All home games are played on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., and are free and open to the public.
