Local painters exhibit beautiful creations

Artists seem to see through different eyes, while we get to enjoy the product of their vision and their inspiration when they share their works of art as a whole. Come see for yourself when The Woodstock Group exhibits beautiful works of art in the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles.

"These five women artists originally met in Woodstock (Ill.) where they painted together. They formed The Woodstock Group, which has held a number of group exhibitions during the past several years," said member artist Betty Schmidt. "Their artwork encompasses oil, acrylic and watercolor, while their styles vary from realism to impressionism. In each of their individual ways, the artists create their own interpretations of something special to them. Overall, the paintings are peaceful and calming."

The participating artists, who live throughout the western suburbs, include Barbara Brown, Anita Kaiser, Betty Schmidt, Astrid Enskat and Carol Keene.

Come meet the artists in person at this exhibit's opening reception from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Four of the participating artists will speak briefly, at 3 p.m., about their artwork. Treats to enjoy at the opening will include mouthwatering handmade gelato, donated by All Chocolate Kitchen in Geneva. This event is free and open to all.

Astrid Enskat began painting as a young girl in Germany. She studied at The Art Institute of Chicago, but didn't get a chance to delve into her painting hobby until 2001. Enskat is a plein air artist (a French expression meaning "in the open air") and paints in oils. Her works of art have appeared in exhibits both in the Chicago area and in Florida.

Keene is a prolific painter who regularly posts newly completed works of art on dailypainters.com. This artist's oil paintings range from realistic to abstract, captivating landscapes to intricately detailed florals, and more.

Schmidt uses oils in both plein air paintings (done "in the open air") and studio work, Her paintings have appeared in local and national shows. She has served as president of Oil Painters of America from 2002-04, and on the boards of various art organizations. See her work online at bettyschmidt.com.

This upcoming exhibit will impress visitors with the range of what different painters create, as well as the differing techniques utilized by each artist.
