Annual Spring Tea Fundraiser Explores Life of Margaret Powell

West Chicago, Illinois: May 30, 2014 - Join the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum and the West Chicago Historical Society for the Fourth Annual Spring Tea Fundraiser, held at the American Legion Hall Post 300, 123 Main Street, on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.

The event will feature Leslie Goddard performing her program Below Stairs: Meet the Kitchen Maid Whose Memoirs Helped Inspire Downton Abbey. This entertaining program presents the story of Margaret Powell, a British servant, who introduced life below stairs in stately English homes in the early 1920s through her best-selling memoir Below Stairs. Through the voice of Powell, this program gives a lively look at the work it took to run a wealthy household and the eccentricities often found among employers.

Join the fun as Leslie Goddard brings Downton Abbey to life as part of this entertaining tea luncheon. A silent auction will also be held to benefit the Society and the Friends of the Museum. Reservations are required, space is limited; please contact (630) 231-3376 or wegohistory
