Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is Hosting Community Blood Drive on March 5

Barrington, IL - Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, March 5, 10 am - 4 pm in the Prairie Room at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 West Highway 22 in Barrington, Illinois.

Approximately 4.5 million patients need a blood transfusion each year, and 1 out of every 7 patients that enter a hospital will need a blood transfusion and 80 percent of Americans will need blood by age 75. Donating blood is one of the easiest ways to give back to others. There is a great need out there for people donating blood.

Not only is donating blood easy, donating blood is also extremely safe. There are no health risks for donating blood and the phlebotomists ensure comfort throughout the donating process. After donating you will get some sort of drink, usually high in sugar, and some kind of snack. Since blood is 97% water, it is extremely important to drink a lot of water before and after donating blood.

"Every 3 seconds someone in America needs blood. Many people aren't aware that a single donation can help up to five patients." says Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital pathologist, Oliver Kim, MD. "The need for blood always exceeds the available supply, so please consider donating."

Anyone over the age of 16 and more than 110 pounds is able to donate. Contact the Life Source Medical Help Desk with questions at 847.803.7921 or contact your primary care physician.

Good Shepherd Hospital supports local blood drives throughout the year. Appointments are recommended, to schedule an appointment, contact Life Source at 877.543.3768 or visit www.lifesource.org. Save time and complete the questionnaire online the same day prior to donation. Print the bar code when complete, bring to the blood drive and the Life Source staff will scan the answers. Use group code BA04.
