Suburban chorus headed to international competition makes stop at Cougars game

Sweet Adelines International medalist hopefuls, the Choral-Aires Chorus, will kick off the Kane County Cougars game (Geneva, Ill.) against the Clinton LumberKings with the National Anthem on Tuesday, August 20. The Elmhurst-based chorus invites all of Chicagoland to root for the home team, while also getting a tease of the Chorus' sound, to be on display later this year on the international stage in Honolulu.

For most members of the Choral-Aires Chorus, this appearance at the Kane County Cougars game is a warm-up for a more intensive performance competing with more than 30 other choruses worldwide in Hawaii this November. The Chorus consistently represents their three-state region on the international stage, earning a place among the top-ten medaling choruses in nine of 10 recent competitions.

“Our members love performing before a hometown crowd. Teaming with the Kane County Cougars gives some of our newest members great experience in a fun, welcoming environment. We can't wait to honor our country and our home team by singing our National Anthem before this game,” says Chorus President Nancy Smith.

Community members are invited to support the Choral-Aires' fundraising efforts by purchasing game tickets through the Chorus. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. game are $10 and can be purchased by emailing Sherry at sparker52@sbcglobal.net.

Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide women's singing organization committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. More than 100 women from Illinois and Wisconsin sing tight harmonies a cappella (without instrumentation) with the Choral-Aires Chorus, a Sweet Adelines International medaling chorus, and the 2012 Lake Michigan Region 3 Champion. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. More information about the Chorus can be found at their website, http://choral-aires.com.
