Dancing into a Danger Zone with 'Flashdance – The Musical'

‘Flashdance – The Musical' has arrived in Chicago for a two-week engagement at the Cadillac Palace Theater. Thirty years since the Paramount Film hit the big screens around the world, Flashdance was as electric and pulsating as it could be with incredibly choreographed dance numbers and songs that will bring you back to the 1980's era.

Such songs featured Academy Award winning, “Flashdance – What a Feeling”, “Maniac”, “Gloria”, “Manhunt”, and “I Love Rock & Roll”. On top of the top ten hits, 16 new songs were added as background to the many stories happening during the performance. Bravo to Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis, The Addams Family) for his direction and choreography, as well as music by Robbie Roth with lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth.

‘Flashdance - The Musical' tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens (Jillian Mueller), a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss, Nick Hurley (Matthew Hydz), threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.

One of the amazing notes about the show is that there are so many different stereotypical stories going on, on top of Alex's dream. The large supporting cast is the best in the business and made the show top notch compared to many shows that come through Chicago on their way to Broadway. Speaking of Broadway, no dates have been announced just yet. All in all, I highly recommended it!

The show is at the Cadillac Palace Theater through August 18. Tickets range from $18-$85 and can be purchased at www.BroadwayInChicago.com.
