Lisle veteran's book wins awards

George Banas, Lisle author and member of Naperville's American Legion Post 43 received two "Honorable Mention" awards at the July 20, 2013 Hollywood Book Festival for his multi-genre 9/11 book titled: "Terrorists and the Terchova Treasure - In My Brother's Place". The awards were presented in the "General Fiction" and "Thriller" categories, although the book has a factual basis. Mr. Bruce Haring, Managing Director of JM Northern Media, LLC which sponsored the Festival stated: "Our book award contests receive many submissions every year. For one book to win in two competitions is a rare achievement and a testament to the work's broad appeal".

Also, in another July competition sponsored by the book review firm, Reader's Favorites, Banas's book received a "Five Star" rating and a "Finalist" award in early judging with final competition results to be announced in September.

"The recognition is welcomed," Banas said, "because my book needs to help area veterans who, in some cases, are no longer able to help themselves. For each book I sell, I donate $1 to Post 43 to help fund local, state, and national Legion programs for veterans and students in addition to any other donations I receive on behalf of the Legion while I'm engaged in book signings and group presentations of all kinds. The Legion supports veterans from WWII through the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. This is my way of raising funds that go directly to veterans and their families without reductions for overhead and administrative expenses. As an early Vietnam-era veteran myself, I understand and appreciate the level of sacrifice current military personnel and their families offer to this country. As for student achievement awards and scholarships, these are on-going programs to build this nation's future and require continual funding and attention".
