Artists are wanted for participation in Artéculture, the upcoming multi-media art show at Gallery 200 on May 19 - 20, 2017. The 10,500 square-foot art venue at 103 W. Washington Street in the heart of West Chicago's downtown has become an incubator for the talents of local and regional creatives, and has solidified West Chicago's reputation as a destination for the arts.
Since 2014, Artéculture has provided a platform for new and emerging artists to exhibit and sell their work at Blooming Fest, a highly attended garden festival which brings thousands of people downtown for the West Chicago Garden Club's annual plant sale and a host of other activities including a craft sale, car show, music stage and food. Artéculture adds the art component to the roster.
Sponsored by the West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission, Artéculture showcases innovative works of art including interactive installations and more. Currently, artists are wanted and may apply online through a submission form which contains all the details. There is a $5 registration fee for each piece of art, with a limit of two works of art per artist. Proceeds of the registration fee go to an Artist in Residency Program administered by the not-for-profit organization People Made Visible. No commissions will be taken for any artwork sold.
"Like many of the plants sold at Blooming Fest, the art scene has grown organically in West Chicago as a result of the cultivation of the dedicated individuals on the Commission. Its mission to engage, enlighten and enrich lives through the art experience is the driving force behind the creation of Artéculture and the many other projects the Commission spearheads," said Rosemary Mackey, West Chicago Marketing and Communication Coordinator and Commission staff liaison.
