"Today, as our state and our nation struggle to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, NAMI Illinois recognizes that the psychological impact of this situation will leave no American untouched, regardless of their level of risk for contracting the virus. As Americans take the necessary steps to protect their physical health - by practicing social distancing, monitoring for potential symptoms that have not yet occurred, and increasing isolation - mental health can be negatively impacted, especially for those whose mental health may already be tenuous. Now, more than ever, NAMI Illinois stands with you as a partner, available and dedicated to our clientele, and knowing that during any crisis, we are stronger together." -NAMI Illinois

NAMI Support groups offer participants the opportunity to reinforce coping skills, seek emotional support, and receive practical help from others who have "been there."

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization, dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness and their families. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health.

The Barrington Area Chapter is one of 22 NAMI affiliates in Illinois. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by mental illness through support, education, and advocacy.

Our trained NAMI volunteers bring peer-led programs to a wide variety of community settings. With the unique understanding of people with lived experience, these programs provide outstanding free education, skills training, and support.

We offer free, drop-in support groups for individuals living with mental illnesses and for family members or friends of those living with a mental illness.

NAMI advocates for those with mental illness and their families in state and national public policy. NAMI's legislative and public policy priority is to support Americans affected by mental illness' opportunities to build better lives.
