Chicago Blackhawks team with Vitalant for Rosemont Blood Drive Dec. 15

Demonstrating that there is an easier way to give blood than through big hits on the ice, the Chicago Blackhawks will support fans who attend the Vitalant Holiday Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, at 5505 Pearl St., Rosemont.

Your ticket to watch the Blackhawks take on the New York Islanders at the United Center on January 22 begins with rolling up your sleeve. All participating donors will be entered into a random drawing to win one of three pairs of tickets that game. In addition, all donors will receive a limited-edition, Vitalant Ugly Sweater shirt.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointements are encouraged and can be made by visiting www.vitalant.org or by calling (877) 25-VITAL.

More than 6,300 Blackhawk fans have donated at this blood drive since the team partnered with Vitalant (re: LifeSource) back in 2009.

In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification. The donation appointment takes about an hour (with the donation itself only around 1o minutes) and is both safe and comfortable.

"The holiday season is widely considered the most wonderful time of the year, but for those in need of blood transfusions or receiving treatment for cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, it can be the most worrisome time of the year," notes Vitalant Regional Director Eva Quinley. "Blood donations are currently at very low levels on a national scale, so it's important that those who are eligible make an appointment to donate to ensure that area hospitals have an adequate supply on hand."

LifeSource is now Vitalant

Earlier this year, Blood Systems announced that its 10 blood center brands including LifeSource had united as one cohesive brand under the new name Vitalant. In the Chicagoland area, Vitalant has 17 donation centers, four fixed sites, and hosts an average of six blood drives every day. View all center locations and blood drive dates by visiting vitalant.org or call 877-258-4825 (877-25VITAL).
