Third Coast Brass concert to kick off the holiday season Nov. 26

On Monday, Nov. 26, the Chamber Music on the Fox will mark the start of the holiday season with a program titled "A Very Brassy Christmas."

Featuring Third Coast Brass, the sextet will interweave classic Christmas melodies with the music of Ingolf Dahl, Philip Glass, and Oskar Bohme in an eclectic and heartwarming program.

"It's a happy occurrence that there are so many beautiful and fun Christmas arrangements for brass ensemble, and I'm especially excited to be performing Oskar Boehme's Brass Sextet, one of the all time greatest works of the Romantic Era, with some of the finest brass players in Chicago," noted bass trombonist Mark Fry.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Elgin, 216 E. Highland Ave.

General admission is $20, student tickets are available for $10, and Chamber Music on the Fox also offers a pay-what-you-can option for artists.

Founded by Elgin Symphony Orchestra musicians Mark Fry and Sara Sitzer, the Chamber Music on the Fox is a world-class classical chamber music series serving Elgin and the greater Fox Valley region. Its mission is to present engaging, enriching, and immersive performances and cultural experiences that enhance and enrich the cultural offerings of the area.

The fifth season of Chamber Music on the Fox includes performances by many of the finest artists in the Chicago and Fox Valley regions. The season began Oct. 22 with "The Romantics," featuring Schumanns only quartet for strings and piano and Faure's first piano quartet.

The series will continue with pianist Natasha Paremski in "Pictures at an Exhibition." The Feb. 4 recital at the intimate and chic Imago in downtown Elgin will feature works by Prokofiev and Ravel along with Mussorgsky's epic "Pictures at an Exhibition." Seating is limited for this one-night-only event; concert tickets for this evening are $30, $15 for students.

On April 8, the Apollo Trio, featuring flute, harp and viola, will offer an evening of music by Debussy, Ibert, and others in the Seigle Gallery of Elgin Artspace Lofts.

The season finale on May 13 will feature the Kontras Quartet. On this program, the quartet will tread the line between classical music and American folk.
