Join Tastebud Tours for Chicago World's Fair Food Tour this fall

On May 1, 1893, the Chicago World's Fair: Columbian Exposition opened to the public and 27 million people from all over the world flooded the city of Chicago.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of this extravagant and historical event.

Little physical evidence of how grand this World's Fair was remains in the city; however, we can look to buildings like The Art Institute of Chicago. It was the World's Congress Building at the fair and was later shared with the Art Institute of Chicago after the fair closed.

Like the fairs we know today, the foods on the midway were an attraction of themselves.

In celebration of the flavors the Columbian Exposition brought to Chicago, Tastebud Tours Chicago has created a food tour that highlights the foods that tantalized taste buds at the fair.

The tour is led by "Bertha Palmer" dressed in an elegant gown. As she escorts her guests through the city, she shares stories of the fair based on her first-hand experience. The tour begins at the private, members only Cliff Dwellers Club providing stunning views of the lakeshore and city.

While in character as Bertha Palmer, Tiffany Black shared, "Being in attendance of any World's Fair meant you were a part of an international, cultural event with everlasting social importance! For many, they were a once in a lifetime opportunity. Including a plethora of interests and experiences in addition to providing a glance into the advances of tomorrow, a World's Fair was not to be missed! After we won the bid in 1889 to house the Columbian Exposition, individuals read publications over the course of several years selling how 'The White City' would showcase the world through it's 65,000 exhibits spanning over 633 acres. There hadn't been, nor would there ever be, another World's Fair that came close to the offerings of the Columbian Exposition."

Locals and visitors of the City of Chicago can celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Columbian Exposition by indulging in the Chicago World's Fair Food Tour.

The food tour is a three-hour experience that fills up your stomach and your mind as if you were on the fairgrounds. After all, nothing peaks ones interest more than learning about the history of the hot dog while eating an all-beef frank.

Tastebud Tours Chicago will be offering the Chicago World's Fair Food Tour until the end of October.
