Learn photography in today's digital setting

Be part of the fascinating world of photography in Dennis Walker's Photography 1 class that starts on Monday, Sept. 16.

In this 10-week class offered by District 214 Community Education, students will learn the basics of photography, including the three pillars of exposure, shutter speed and aperture and sensitivity.

Photography 1 (Class #5655) runs from Sept. 16 to Nov. 25 on Mondays, 7 to 9 p.m., at Prospect High School. Each class will involve a different project. The class fee is $159.

Students can bring either SLR or DSLR cameras to this class and learn about lighting and composition. Smartphones are welcome.

"Photography is a big part of my life," said Walker, the instructor of the class. "My greatest joy is transferring my knowledge to my students."

"I like photography because it's magic," said Walker. "The students will learn things that they will be able to use the rest of their life."

Walker enjoys doing various forms of photography: portrait, photojournalism, food, weddings and fashion are just a few. He has been teaching for many years and has taught at Fred Fox Studios. Many of his students are now professional photographers.

"I never looked at my job as work," said Walker. "I could hardly wait to get to my job so I could create more and more memories that will last an eternity."

The Photography 1 class will give students an opportunity to review their work from the week before. Each student will see the work of other students and also learn from their classmates.
