Little Angels Pledge Run returns June 2 to Woodstock Harley-Davidson

Fans of motorcycles, take note!

The Marklund Little Angels Pledge Run will return to the Woodstock Harley-Davidson this year on Sunday, June 2.

By pledging $25, bikers and passengers from all around will gather for a ride through the country to support Marklund's residents, followed by a party with food and entertainment.

Registration is being taken on the event website at p2p.onecause.com/littleangelspledgerun/challenge. Participants can register on race day as well. Online registration will close at midnight on Wednesday, May 29.

In addition to the registration fee, riders may also find sponsors and do personal fundraising.

Nonriders can attend the party or start online fundraising pages.

Marklund is working toward raising $50,000 from the event.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the Pledge Run will help refurnish nine bedrooms at the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin as a part of Marklund's "Project Sweet Dreams: Bedroom Makeover."

That bedroom furniture in Elgin was last replaced 20 years ago, so the new furnishings will be updated and more stylish for the residents. Many of them are non-ambulatory or have complex medical problems that require 24-hour skilled nursing care, so Marklund believes it's important to have a special, safe place where they can relax - watch shows, listen to music, take a nap, or visit with friends and family.

"One of the best things about the Pledge Run is seeing so many different groups unite for one cause," said Stephanie Heinz, Individual Giving Manager at Marklund. "This year, we are excited about refurnishing our resident's bedrooms through Project Sweet Dreams and everyone who supports the event, at any level, is the reason we can complete this project."

The event was previously organized for many years as a fundraiser for the Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care in Elgin. Since its merger with the Marklund organization in November 2016, the Elgin facility was renamed Marklund Wasmond Center, for Little Angels' founder Pat Wasmond.

"We are very excited for the return of the Little Angels Pledge Run," said Marklund's Community Events Manager, Natalie Sarby. "Let's all come together for some live music, food, raffle prizes, and to make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities."

Marklund is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special health care needs. With three residential locations, it is currently home to nearly 174 clients.
