New Miss Northern Suburbs Selected

NEW MISS NORTHERN SUBURBS SELECTED

Grayslake, IL - August 23, 2016 - On Saturday, August 20, 2016, Isha Jog, a 21-year-old from Schaumburg, was chosen as the new Miss Northern Suburbs 2017. Held at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest, the Miss Northern Suburbs Competition also selected Bailee Jones from Coal Valley as the new Miss Northern Suburbs' Outstanding Teen 2017.

As Miss Northern Suburbs, Jog receives a $5,000 Lake Forest College in-kind scholarship and $500 cash scholarship courtesy of Gladstone Square Mall in Beach Park and the opportunity to compete for the Miss Illinois title in Marion, IL in June. As Miss Northern Suburbs' Outstanding Teen 2017, Jones, receives a $250 talent scholarship courtesy of Mount Olivet Memorial Park in Zion and the opportunity to compete for the Miss Illinois' Outstanding Teen title also in Marion, IL.

During her year as Miss Northern Suburbs, Jog will travel throughout the north suburban area advocating her platform issue, Dare to Care: Encouraging Youth Volunteerism.

Robin Ruchti, president of the Miss Northern Suburbs Organization, commented on the new Miss Northern Suburbs. "Isha embodies the qualities a role model for young women and girls should have," said Ruchti. "She's talented, ambitious and accomplished. We are excited about working with her this year."

Established in 2008, the Miss Northern Suburbs Scholarship Organization provides opportunities for young women to achieve their personal and professional ambitions. Contestants also participate in community service activities and develop leadership skills that help them excel in their chosen career and life goals. A not-for-profit affiliate of the Miss America Organization, the Miss Northern Suburbs Scholarship Organization has made available more than $50,000 in scholarships and in-kind funds to young women throughout Illinois. Winners of the annual Miss Northern Suburbs Competition are eligible to compete in the Miss Illinois Competition, held every year in Marion, IL in June.

The Miss America Organization, a 501(c)4 non-profit organization, is the nation's leading advocate for women's education and the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in the United States, awarding millions of dollars annually. The Miss America Organization is comprised of 52 licensed organizations, including all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Miss America contestants contribute tens of thousands of community service hours annually and have raised millions for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and Miss America scholarships since 2007.
