Guerin Prep to Join Metro Suburban Conference

(River Grove) Guerin College Preparatory High School, 8001 W. Belmont Avenue, has joined the fourteen-member Metro Suburban Conference (MSC). Guerin Prep received official notification from the Metro Suburban Conference Board on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. The move is scheduled for the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

Students at Guerin Prep previously competed within the Suburban Christian Conference for the past 4 years. “With this move, every school in the MSC will have a chance to compete for a championship. Our student athletes are very excited that there will be a renewed focus on neighborhood rivalries with Elmwood Park and Ridgewood. Overall, this new conference offers us a geographic and logistical advantage, reducing travel times and fostering a community amongst local student athletes and fans,” commented Phil Radke, Director of Athletics at Guerin Prep.

Guerin Prep currently sponsors 16 athletic programs, and 30 non-athletic clubs and activities on a 23-acre campus that features a football and soccer field, baseball field and softball field, two gymnasiums, a wrestling practice room, state-of-the art strength and conditioning fitness center, and an athletic medicine facility run by certified trainers from Athletico.

“We are truly excited about the opportunity to join the Metro Suburban Conference and look forward to providing even greater opportunities with all of its member schools in academics, fine arts, athletics and leadership,” said Radke.

Six additional area high schools, including Aurora Central Catholic, Chicago Christian, IC Catholic Prep, St. Edward, Walther Lutheran and Wheaton Academy will join Guerin Prep in the move to the MSC conference at the start of the 2014 school year.
