  • West Chicago World War II veteran Chuck Scheckel was accompanied by his son Mike Scheckel on an Honor Flight Chicago trip to the nation's capital in 2009. Now, Mr. Scheckel works on a committee of the DuPage Veterans Foundation to raise funds for other veterans to have that chance.

The DuPage Veterans Foundation invites the public to join in honoring World War II veterans at its first annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at DuPage Airport, 2700 International Drive, West Chicago.

Gates open at 11 a.m. followed by lunch with the veterans, static displays of WWII era aircraft and military vehicles, music by "Legacy Girls" and much more.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door; $20 for children under 12.

WWII veterans and active duty military personnel are free. Proceeds will benefit Honor Flight Chicago.
