Judson's Community Prayer Breakfast set for May 2

(Elgin, IL - March 21, 2012) Judson University has announced Dr. Stuart Briscoe as the keynote speaker for the Community Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 2. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center on Judson's Elgin campus, 1151 N. State St., Elgin.

Dr. Stuart Briscoe is an evangelical Christian author, international speaker and former senior pastor of Elmbrook Church of Brookfield, Wisc. Under Briscoe's leadership, weekly attendance grew from 300 to 7,000 and numerous sister churches were planted, making Elmbrook the largest church in the state of Wisconsin.

In 2000, Stuart decided to step down as pastor; however, it was not a retirement, but a retooling of his mission back into global outreach. He and his wife Jill began serving as Elmbrook's ministers-at-large, going where they were most needed to support under-resourced churches and missionaries. Today, the Briscoes spend most of their year away from home, bringing encouragement to God's servants throughout the world. Briscoe has written more than forty books, preached in over 100 countries, and has received honorary doctorates from a number of schools and universities.

The annual community prayer breakfast will also include the presentation of the D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award, given to the candidate who has contributed to the greater good within the Fox Valley community by voluntarily serving others' physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual needs. In remembrance of his faithful service to the greater Elgin community, the award was named for Fox Valley civic leader and event founder D. Ray Wilson, who passed away in 2003.

Candidates must live and volunteer within the greater Elgin community, or East Dundee, West Dundee, Carpentersville, Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, Wayne, Plato Center, St. Charles, Bartlett, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Streamwood and Barrington.

Nominations for the D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award will remain open until Thursday, April 12. All submissions can be filed at www.JudsonU.edu/communityaward.

Judson University President Dr. Jerry Cain will also be honored at the event for his accomplishments at Judson as well as his contributions to the many organizations in the Elgin community. Dr. Cain has been president of Judson University since 1998 and will be retiring this June.

Tickets for the event are $16 for individuals. Table sponsorships can be purchased for $350, which includes recognition and a table reservation for eight guests. To register for the event, go to www.JudsonU.edu/prayerbreakfastregistration.
