Spring is in full swing with District 214 Community Education's robust offerings, sign up now!

District 214 Community Education's spring session starts this week and community members will be able to take advantage of robust and versatile offerings to help them explore their many interests and achieve their personal goals.

A variety of exciting classes are offered in 12 categories: arts, culinary, finance, law and real estate, fitness and athletics, health and wellness, hobbies and leisure, home and garden, language, professional development technology and youth, family and parent programs.

For the first time, District 214 Community Education is launching 214 Discovery Camps, offering a variety of camps for Grades 1 to 8 and ages 12-16. Camp offerings include STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) classes, languages and performing arts.

The following camps are scheduled June 10 to August 1:

• Wheeling STEM Camp includes Explorations in Manufacturing Engineering and Wheeling STEM Camp - A Bug's Life/What's My Shape? Do Worms Like Snow in April?/Healthy Snacks, Busy Builders! An Introduction to Engineering/Pockets, Spa Science/FUN-TECH Coding 1, Nanotechnology 1/FUN-TECH Coding 2, and more.

• Engineering for Kids STEM Camp is a four-day, all-day camp with six different weeks to choose from.

• Harper College InZone, a two-week camp, offers Game Generator and Engineering STEM Camps.

• Camp 214, a partnership with KE Camps, is also a four-day camp and offers full and half days and will run for six weeks.

• World Language Italian Camp and World Language Spanish Camp are two-week camps and are half days.

• Teen Beech Musical Camp, a half-day camp, will run for two weeks.

The spring session also offers new classes including four from a new culinary instructor who will bring his European experience and education to the classroom. These classes include Herbs in Cooking on April 8, Fine Dining at Home on April 15, Romantic French Dinner on April 22 and The European Happy Hour on April 29.

Gold Card members, District 214 residents who are 62 years old or older, can avail of discounted class fees for numerous classes. These classes include Flash Nonfiction (a creative writing class), Ballroom & Latin Dancing, Latin Dance, 214Sings Adult Choir, Beatles Guitar Workshop, Outdoor Photography, Watercolor, Yoga, Walk Live, and more.

On the entertainment side, an upcoming concert, An American Icon - Johnny Cash Tribute starring Doug Allen Nash will take place Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. This tribute to Johnny Cash will feature his classic songs and his later works. Allen, an international performer, truly captures the voice and physical appearance of the legendary musician. Tickets are $15 (Gold Card), $18 (Advanced) and $20 (Door).

Community Education Travel (CET) invites community members to attend the spring Travel Talks! on Wednesday, May 1, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights. Learn more about the CET June to December Day Trips that will be announced that day. Other trips that will be presented during the Talks! are South America with Easter Island; Rome, Paris and London; Pennsylvania Autumn; Hallmark Christmas; Colonial Williamsburg Christmas and Caribbean Cruise.
