Sheriff to discuss 'Keeping Our Communities Safe'

With community safety a key concern, the Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills Chamber of Commerce Women's Network Group will host a special luncheon event, "Keeping Our Communities Safe," featuring a presentation by Lake County Sheriff Mark C. Curran, Jr.

The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Austin's, 481 Peterson Road, Libertyville. The event is open to both men and women from business and community.

"There are a lot of dads who put their children on the school bus. They also are worried what may happen once they say goodbye," GLMV Chair Karen Kay Lavris said.

"We need everyone's support to care and keep our children safe. We look forward to hear what our police are doing to return our children home from a day of learning."

Keeping schools, houses of worship and businesses safe today requires a preparedness plan. For law enforcement, preparedness begins with a greater understanding of the root cause of mass violence.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office will discuss the Crisis Intervention Training provided to first responders to identify subjects in crisis, connect them to services and thwart potential violence.

In addition, they will discuss the collaborative relationships the office has developed with the schools within their district and with partners including Advocate Condell, the Lake County Health Department and more.

Along with Sheriff Curran, Undersheriff David Hare, Chief Jonathan Petrillo, Lieutenant Andrea Usry (Subject Matter Expert: Community Safety Team) and Antonietta Simonian will also attend.

Handouts available will include a Community Safety Brochure and Lake County Help Postcard, which lists information on the A Way Out program, Text-A-Tip for Lake County students in need of assistance, and Signs and Symptoms of an Overdose. All three programs are interrelated to mental health, addiction, and co-occurring disorders.

The cost of the luncheon is $17 for chamber members in advance, $20 for nonmembers and walk-ins. The program includes registration/networking, 24/7 business introduction, buffet luncheon, program, VIP photos, tax and gratuities.

The luncheon is sponsored by Bank Financial. Space is limited; RSVP at www.glmvchamber.org/events/details/glmv-women-s-network-group-w0w-04-17-2018-293312, (847) 680-0750 or info@glmvchamber.org.
