Learn About STEM Careers for Women Feb. 23 at College of DuPage
High School students are invited to learn more about careers in STEM fields at the inaugural Women in STEM Career Day Thursday, Feb. 23, at the College of DuPage Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
The free event, designed for freshman and sophomore female high school students, takes place 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room 2000 of the Student Resource Center.
Participants will interact with positive role models and participate in hands-on activities in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
"The goal of this event is to promote positive female experiences with STEM and to celebrate women in STEM careers," said Sara McCubbins, College of DuPage STEM Outreach Coordinator. "We hope that by providing this opportunity for high school girls to interact with female role models in the STEM fields, these students will be encouraged to consider and pursue STEM careers in their own future."
Women in STEM Career Day also includes a keynote address from Dr. Amanda Petford-Long, an Argonne Distinguished Fellow in the Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory. In addition to her own research program, Dr. Petford-Long heads Argonne's Integrated Imaging Institute and is a professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Northwestern University.
