Chicago's own Nancy Baird portrays "Aunt Sook" in Truman Capote's A CHRISTMAS MEMORY coming to Provision Theater November 20.

A tale of love and bonding between a young boy named Buddy, played by Max Ganet, and his eccentric, simpleminded, aging Aunt Sook, played by Nancy Baird, Capote's 'A Christmas Memory' is set in Alabama during the 1930s Great Depression and is based on Capote's childhood memories.

Thanksgiving and Christmas mean something different to everyone. For seven year-old Buddy, it means a new home and a new family. When his mother drops him off with her somewhat eccentric family at the edge of a small town, Buddy's first friend becomes his best friend – he develops an unforgettable relationship with his elderly cousin, Miss Sook Falk. The two find themselves on one amazing adventure after another, proving that friendship is the greatest gift of all.

Truman Capote was an American author, many of whose short stories, novels, plays, and nonfiction are recognized literary classics, including the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and the true crime novel In Cold Blood (1966). "A Christmas Memory" is a short story originally published in Mademoiselle magazine in December 1956. It was reprinted in The Selected Writings of Truman Capote in 1963.

Nancy Baird hails from Paducah, Kentucky and currently resides in Chicago, IL. Baird has spent the past decade concentrating on political voice-overs for commercials. A former on-camera spokeswoman, she's a regular on the UNSHACKLED radio series and has many film and television credits including YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE, EARLY EDITION, CHICAGO STORY, THE PACKAGE, ELVIS, MISSING PERSONS and DUMMY. Theatrically, Baird has had some long runs as “Truvy” in STEEL MAGNOLIAS at the Royal George, Apollo, Drury Lane, and Theater at the Center, and also in RUMORS, FUNNY MONEY, THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, and SHIRLEY VALENTINE at the Candlelight- Forum, Mercury, Drury Lane, and Wellington theaters. Baird's mama always said she would never be an actress since she couldn't sing or dance; She later ate her words! Her favorite gig for Nancy was when she co-hosted the NOON SHOW in Nashville, TN on WSM-TV. Baird's mother was her greatest inspiration and she attended most all of her shows with her father before they both died. Baird also attributes her success to Mrs. Mathis, a private "elocution" and speech teacher she had as a child in Kentucky and also Dr. Eugene Bristow at Indiana University who helped Nancy correct her Kentucky "twang".
