2012 World Wide Staging Service Week Project In Full Swing

This community service opportunity focuses on transforming The Harbour's Transitional Living Program (TLP) residence, located in Schaumburg, helping to provide a comforting home environment for homeless girls, ages 16-21.

Chapter members and their commercial affiliates gathered at the home to determine the scope of the project which will utilize the generous donations of paint, furniture, accessories and professional talent needed to Stage® the home. Linda Minogue, President of the Greater Chicago Chapter, stated “Our organization is fortunate to have chapter and affiliate members willing to volunteer to make such a difference for these girls. Every year we try to show the impact that staging can have on the lives of people through our WWSSW projects and this year is no exception.”

The Transitional Living Program was established in 1988 and the Schaumburg location is one of six sites scattered throughout the north and northwest suburbs. The program provides supervised living for homeless girls, as they develop skills that enhance school and vocational success, competency and self-reliance. As a result, they are less likely to experience future homelessness or need public assistance. While in the program, the girls are expected to work 10-20 hours per week and bank 65% of their earnings.

Molly Jacobsen, Office Manager for The Harbour, said, “We want to provide a home anyone would want to grow up in.”
