West Chicago's Mexican Independence Day Celebration Cancelled Due to Insufficient Volunteers and Vendors
West Chicago, Illinois: July 26, 2012 – The City of West Chicago has announced the cancellation of the 2012 Mexican Independence Day Celebration which was previously scheduled for Sunday, September 16, 2012 due to an insufficient number of volunteers to help plan and run the event, as well as a lack of vendor interest. A notice posted in a recent City newsletter, which is distributed to all households, did not yield the necessary response to save the event for this year.
“We will budget for the Mexican Independence Day Celebration again next year”, said Acting Mayor Ruben Pineda, “and hope the community will pull together to organize and manage it. We will also make it a ‘rain or shine' event to address vendor concerns about last minute cancellations due to weather. Let's make next year's event a celebration to be proud of.”
Anyone interested in volunteering for the 2013 Mexican Independence Day Celebration is encouraged to contact Valeria Lopez at (630) 293-2200 x170 in the coming months, noting that planning needs to begin for next year's event early in the new year.
