Judson U. to hold Worship Art Lecture Series Oct. 10
(Elgin, IL - September 26, 2011) The Judson University Worship Arts Department will hold its annual Worship Arts Lecture Series on Monday, October 10 at 1151 N. State St. in Elgin.
Dr. Gerald Borchert, a senior professor at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. and thesis director at the Robert Webber Institute for Worship Studies, will be the guest of honor for this year's lecture series.
Dr. Borchert will begin with a message during the 10 a.m. chapel service in Herrick Chapel on "Authentic Worship: The Antidote to a Poisonous Faith." He will then lecture in Dr. Mark Torgerson's Speaking the Faith class at 11 a.m.
Borchert will speak at 7 p.m. in the Eagle Lounge on "Selected Insights from the Gospels for Vibrant Worship."
Dr. Gerald Borchert is a graduate lawyer from the University of Alberta, with a doctorate in New Testament from Princeton University. He is committed to the work of renewing the church and has served as a minister in a number of churches and mission stations in both the United States and in multiple places in the two-thirds world.
Borchert is one of the translators of the New Living Translation and has written more than 150 articles and a score of books including commentaries on the Gospel of John, Galatians, Revelation, the Thessalonian letters and Worship in the New Testament: Divine Mystery and Human Response in which he surveys the worship aspects in the entire New Testament. He is a seminar leader for tours to the Holy Land and has penned a guide to "The Lands of the Bible." A new work on "Jesus of Nazareth: Background, Witnesses and Significance" is due out in October and has already been pre-selling copies.
