Genealogy Series continues with 'Break Down Brick Walls' April 29

Join the "Genealogy Zoom Chat Series: An Illinois Multi-Library Event" with genealogy librarians from around the state of Illinois as they answer your questions live!

The programs begin at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, through May 27. Use Eventbrite to register for the series and you will get a link to the Zoom conference room in your email. Make sure that you've installed the Zoom software before the event and you'll use that link to join the meeting when it begins.

Everyone is welcome to join the conversation for these Zoom meetings. Bring along any questions you might have about the topic because they will be answering them throughout the meeting. These meetings are totally free for anyone to join.

On Wednesday, April 29, it will be "Break Down Brick Walls." Join this Zoom Chat with genealogy librarians and get answers to your questions.

On Wednesday, May 6, it will be "Ancestry Library Edition." During the pandemic, many libraries are working together with ProQuest to allow patrons to use Ancestry Library Edition for free from home through the end of May.

On Wednesday, May 13, it will be "Finding Military Records." Use library databases and other websites to explore the veterans in your family tree. Genealogy librarians from throughout the state of Illinois will be available to answer questions and discuss strategies in this informative Zoom chat.

On Wednesday, May 20, the program will be "About DNA." Get the low down on DNA research from genealogy librarians Kate Mills and Nancy Hassman. They will talk about what they have learned about using DNA testing for genealogy research and answer your questions during this Zoom chat.

On Wednesday, May 27, it will be "Using FamilySearch." Learn tips and tricks for using FamilySearch to propel your genealogy research. The panel of genealogy librarians from throughout Illinois will give you examples of how they use it while answering all of your questions during this Zoom chat.

Past topics included: "Social Media for Genealogy," "Organize Your Genealogy," and "Online Genealogy from Home Q&A" with genealogy librarians Tara Cajacob from Algonquin Area Public Library, Kate Mills from Barrington Area Public Library, and Nancy Gaynor of Cary Area Public Library.
