Faith Lutheran Church hosting Internationally World Renown Concert Organist

On Sunday, May 5th at 5pm, the Faith Lutheran Church Fine Arts Committee is pleased to announce that we will be hosting international and world renown concert organist, Mr. Samuel Metzger in concert on the church's 3 manual, 30+ rank 1960 M.P. Moller pipe organ.

Mr. Metzger currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he serves as Senior Organist at the New Presbyterian Church in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Samuel will be performing organ works that will highlight the strengths of the Moller pipe organ. Admission is FREE however a free-will offering will be taken for support of the Faith Fine Arts Concert Series.

Samuel Metzger grew up in northern Arizona where his father was a missionary to the Navajo Indians. He began his music studies at the age of 11 and was soon assisting in the mission services. Early studies were at Northern Arizona State University in Flagstaff, where he was accepted into the Preparatory School of Music as a student of Dr. Marilyn Brandon. In high school he studied with Dr. Royce Johnson at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Mr. Metzger began undergraduate studies in 1990 at Arizona State University where he was a student of Robert Clark. There he studied on a Regents Scholarship and at graduation was named “Most Outstanding Undergraduate in Performance.” In 1995 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and began studies with Jon Laukvik at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany.

While in Germany he was organist at the Lutherkirche in Stuttgart-Feuerbach as well as accompanist for the Ludwigsburg Cathedral choir. He was awarded a second Fulbright Scholarship and in 1997 graduated with a degree of Künstleriches Aufbaustudium (KA). Mr. Metzger then went on to study with Marie-Claire Alain in St. Germain-en-Laye, France.

In January 2003, Mr. Metzger became Senior Organist at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, FL, the late Dr. D. James Kennedy, Senior Pastor and presided over the 189 rank 5 manual Ruffatti/Walker organ. He continued in this position for six and half years. Mr. Metzger was also coordinator for Church Music Explosion, a church music convention, that in 2009 celebrated its 34th year. He can also be seen on the Coral Ridge Hour, a TV program seen each week in the USA by 3 million people and is broadcast internationally to 202 countries.

Samuel is currently Senior Organist at The New Presbyterian Church, Pompano Beach, FL. (www.newpres.org) He is heard regularly heard in concert around the country. In 2005 Samuel performed an inaugural concert on the newly rebuilt organ of the Kreuzkirche in Dresden, Germany.

This concert is FREE and open to the public.
