Summer Olympics at Sedgebrook

As the world was tuned in to watch the magical closing ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Lincolnshire had its very own, related celebration. The athletes of Sedgebrook of Lincolnshire closed the community's 2016 Olympics Games, scheduled to coincide with the end of the Olympics in Rio.

Sedgebrook's own two-week long event began with opening ceremonies, featuring four "teams" representing each of the buildings at Sedgebrook. The community's line dancers provided entertainment.

Competitive sports included a triathlon, water volleyball, swimming, 3-mile walking marathon and more. Ninety-four residents participated. The top competitors earned gold, silver and bronze medals.

"This is just a really fun way to engage the residents, and in some cases, encourage new people not typically following a fitness program, to get involved," said Ruth Reyna. "The participants really enjoy the competitive component and love to show off their hard-earned medals."

"Wellness and fitness are integral to the culture at Sedgebrook. Our goal is to help resident stay healthy and independent so that they can enjoy an active lifestyle," said Reyna.
