Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Sammy Escobar had 4 goals and an assist and Oscar Rodriguez added 3 goals and 2 assists as the Elgin boys soccer team defeated De La Salle 8-1 Saturday to win the Lasallian Cup at St. Patrick.

Josue Chavez recorded the other goal for the Maroons (6-3-2) while Tony Benitez stopped 6 shots on goal.

Larkin 2, St. Viator 0: The Royals (7-3-2) controlled St. Viator in this Pepsi Showdown game as they earned a 2-0 victory. Erik Rodriguez recorded a goal and an assist while Tony Hernandez added the final goal and Manny Aguilar notched an assist. Santiago Guerrero turned away 4 shots on goal to preserve the shutout.Huntley 2, DeKalb 0: Scott Dorviller headed home the first goal of the game as he took a cross from Lucas Baker to lead the Red Raiders (7-2-2) to a nonconference victory. Eduardo Gonzalez added an insurance goal off another feed from Baker to round out the scoring. Aleks Rys and Austen Emery shared goal time with 3 and 4 saves, respectively to earn the shutout.

Hersey 2, Jacobs 1: Mario Rako scored the Golden Eagles#146; lone goal as they were defeated by Hersey at the Hononegah Invitational. Eric Soto added the assist and Nick Matysek recorded 6 saves in goal.Springfield 3, Jacobs 1: In their second game at the Hononegah Invitational, the Golden Eagles recorded a goal by Tommy Gallagher and an assist by Eric Nava, but again fell short. Nick Matysek turned away 8 shots on goal.

Hononegah (A) 3, Crystal Lake South 1: The Gators came up short at the Hononegah Invitational as they fell 3-1. Charlie Oliver scored the lone goal for the Gators off an assist from Renato Albuquerque. Steve Follmer recorded 2 saves in goal.Crystal Lake South 6, Hononegah (B) 0: The Gators (8-5) came back to earn a victory at the Hononegah Invitational as they did so in convincing fashion. Zane Boettcher (2 goals), Roberto Albuquerque (2 assists), Charlie Oliver, Renato Albuquerque (1 assist), and Jack Carlson all found the back of the net to lead the Gators.

Kirkland 3, Westminster Christian 1: The Warriors (5-2-1) found themselves tied 1-1 after one half of play, but could not get on the scoreboard again as they fell at home. Josh Beachler recorded the Warriors#146; lone goal off an assist from Sion Lee. Sammy Carani turned away 14 shots on goal.Bartlett 5, Niles West 2: The Hawks (5-3-1) carried a 2-1 lead into halftime and never looked back as they earned a victory in the Pepsi Showdown. Mark Parzy found the back of the net twice while Anthony DiNuzzo, Matt Seidl (1 assist), and Charlie Sordini also recorded 1 goal each. Salvador Arrellano recorded 3 saves in goal.

Streamwood 3, Glenbard North 0: The Sabres (2-10-1) finished the Pepsi Showdown on a high note as they shutout Glenbard North. Mario Rodriguez, Cristian Vences, and Danny Nevarez all recorded goals while Christian Balbino (2 assists) and Christian Rodriguez added assists.Women#146;s soccer
