Anderson Animal Shelter joins in 'Home for the Holidays' adoption campaign

Anderson Animal Shelter has joined over 4,000 other animal welfare agencies across the country, participating in the national "Home for the Holidays" adoption event continuing through December.

The organization has a goal of finding new homes for at least 1,000 pets during the campaign. To help encourage adoptions, Anderson Animal Shelter is planning adoption events.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, Anderson's North Aurora Adoption Center will host a fee-waived adoption event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At this event, adoption fees for all adoptable animals at this location will be waived. The North Aurora Adoption Center opened in February in partnership with Pet Supplies Plus. The center is located next to the Pet Supplies Plus store at 180 N. Randall Road in North Aurora.

On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Anderson's Bloomingdale location will host a mega-adoption event featuring more than 75 adoptable animals. This adoption center opened in March of this year in partnership with Petco Foundation. It is located inside the Petco store, 412 Army Trail Road in Bloomingdale.

Every animal adopted from Anderson is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, examined by a veterinarian, treated for internal and external parasites.

Dogs over 6 months of age are also checked for heartworm and cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.

All adoptions also come with a free vet exam at a participating veterinary clinic and one month of free pet health insurance. More information about adoptable pets is available online at www.andersonanimalshelter.org.

Anderson Animal Shelter is the Fox Valley area's largest and oldest animal shelter, having served the area for more than 50 years.

The shelter cares for more than 5,000 homeless pets each year and conducts adoptions through its main shelter, as well as at two satellite adoption centers that opened earlier this year. All three adoption centers are open seven days a week.
