Advocate Condell to offer cancer awareness info at Farmers Market

Advocate Condell Medical Center will offer information on cancer care, prevention and treatment at the Mundelein Farmers Market.

On July 20, Advocate Condell will focus on cancer-fighting foods. According to the American Cancer Society, research shows that poor diet and not being active are two key factors that can increase cancer risk. Except for quitting smoking, some of the most important things you can do to help reduce your cancer risk are:

• Maintain a healthy weight.

• Be physically active on a regular basis.

• Make healthy food choices.

The evidence for this is strong, according to ACS: Each year, more than 572,000 Americans die of cancer; about one-third of these deaths are linked to poor diet, physical inactivity and carrying too much weight.

More information about the link between cancer and diet and wellness will be available at Condell's booth at the Farmers Market. Members of the hospital's wellness staff also will be on hand with information on weight management and calculating Body Mass Index, a key measure of healthy weight.

Advocate Condell Medical Center is the exclusive Sprout Sponsor of the Mundelein Farmers Market, which runs June through October every Friday from 3 to 7 pm in downtown Mundelein, one block south of Route 176 and one block east of Route 45. The Mundelein Farmers Market Committee's goal is to provide a wide variety of fresh produce and unique food products in a fun, family-friendly environment with convenient access. Each week, a different local business and non-profit organization are featured.
