Holy Cross Anglican Church in Lake Villa welcomes visiting missionary priest

The Rev. Diana M. Gorgos will be the visting priest at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Lake Villa for the summer. She began her assignment June 3 and will serve until Aug. 25 as the parish continues its national search for a long-term rector.

"Holy Cross welcomes the opportunity to support Pastor Gorgos's work in Kenya by hosting her this summer. We need to share Christ's message here in Lake Villa and around the world," said Betsy Crist, senior warden.

Rev. Gorgos most recently served for 14 years as a missionary minister in the Garissa Mission Diocese in Kenya. In addition to presiding at weekly liturgies, she served as the bishop's chaplain, taught religious education and helped raise money to build a Christian primary and secondary school. An ordained priest in the Anglican Church of Kenya and in the Anglican Church in North America, Gorgos also practices bush medicine in the Garissa Mission diocese. The approach recognizes the interplay between the physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects in attaining well-being. She alternates between six months in Kenya and six months in the U.S. In addition to serving at Holy Cross on Sundays, she currently ministers during the week at Feed My Lambs Bible Camp in Winona Lake, Ind.

Prior to her missionary work in Kenya, Gorgos served as a chaplain for Minneapolis-area residents of Presbyterian Homes, a faith-based nonprofit providing residential communities, healthcare programs and services for older adults.

A native of Leadville, Colo., she worked for 20 years as a dermatology nurse clinician prior to entering the ministry. Gorgos holds a master's degree in health education from the University of Minnesota. She also earned two bachelor's degrees, one in community health/health education from Winona State University in Winona, Minn., and the other in nursing from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wis.

Holy Cross Anglican Church is affiliated with the Diocese of Pittsburgh in the Anglican Church in North America. The parish church and offices are located at 500 Park Avenue, Unit 102, in Lake Villa.The Sunday Eucharist takes place at 9:30 a.m., followed by a coffee and social hour. Visitors are welcome.
