Enroll Lake County! Kicks Off New Enrollment Period With Two Events, Nov. 15

The next enrollment period for the health insurance Marketplace is November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015. On opening day November 15, navigators with the Enroll Lake County! program will be available to educate and enroll residents at two events. They will be at the Ultimate Workout Health Fair and Wellness Expo from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Family First Center of Lake County, 202 S. Genesee Street in Waukegan. They will also be stationed at the Craft Fair and Diabetes Expo from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 1155 Hillside in Antioch sponsored by the Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance. Their services are free of charge. Appointments can be made in advance by calling (847) 377-4999.

The health insurance Marketplace is a resource where individuals, families, and small businesses can learn about their health insurance options; compare health insurance plans based on costs, benefits, and other important features; choose a plan; and enroll in health insurance. While the Marketplace is open for three months, navigators are helping residents enroll in Medicaid year-round.

Launched by the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center and local partners in 2013, Enroll Lake County! recently received a second year of grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of $713,000.

The Health Department is working with a variety of local agencies as its Year 2 Grant Partners: A Safe Place, Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Community Action Partnership, Family First Center, Family Service: Prevention, Education and Counseling, Moraine Township, Nicasa Behavioral Health Services, The Alliance for Human Services, Vista Health System (East, Lindenhurst and West), Waukegan Public Library and the YWCA Lake County. It is also working with more than 30 Awareness and Referral Partners who have signed on as supporters of the initiative.

Enroll Lake County's target population is all Lake County consumers eligible to enroll for qualified health plans, tax credits, and cost-sharing reductions, or Medicaid. At the beginning of the first grant year, an estimated 71,536 Lake County adults were uninsured. Since the beginning of the program, Enroll Lake County! navigators have educated more than 36,000 individuals, personally assisted more than 18,000 individuals and helped close to 12,000 enroll in Medicaid or Health Insurance Marketplace plans.
