COD board president running for state House

A wide-open state House race in central DuPage County has quickly produced one of the region’s most crowded election fields.

College of DuPage board President David Carlin is the latest Republican to confirm interest in seeking the 42nd House District seat.

Candidates must file their nominating petitions between Nov. 28 and Dec. 5.

Carlin’s entry in the race means five Republicans will battle for the nomination in the March 20 GOP primary. The winner likely will square off against political newcomer William Adams, who has said he will run as a Democrat.

The other four Republican candidates are Wheaton City Councilwoman Jeanne Ives, Winfield businessman Gary Saake, former DuPage County prosecutor Chris Hage and Laura Pollastrini, a government relations manager who lives in Carol Stream.

The seat is wide open after the newly drawn boundary maps shifted the 42nd District west out of the residence area of five-term incumbent Glen Ellyn Republican Sandy Pihos. GOP Rep. Michael Connelly, who represents the 48th district, lives within the new 42nd but has announced he will run for Illinois Senate.

The district covers all or parts of Winfield, West Chicago, Carol Stream, Wheaton, Naperville and Lisle.
