May 22: Memorial Day Ceremony at CLC

The eighth annual College of Lake County Memorial Day ceremony will be held at noon on Friday, May 22. The ceremony will be held outdoors at the CLC Willow Lake Veterans Memorial on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Staff from Naval Station Great Lakes will support the event with a chaplain, color guard bugler and the 13 folds of the flag ceremony. Bagpiper Mary Tallman and the U.S. Marine Corps rifle team will also participate. The keynote speaker will be U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Chris Miller, Naval Station Great Lakes USO of Illinois Center Director. Other speakers include Sergeant First Class Justin M. Gullion, Illinois Army National Guard, and a Gold Star family member of U.S. Army Specialist Wesley Wells.

The ceremony will also include a bagpiper, the national anthem and reciting names of the servicemen with Lake County ties who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. The master of ceremonies will be Mike Peck, superintendent of the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission.

Individuals who have made donations to the College of Lake County Foundation for tribute bricks to support construction of the memorial are invited to view their bricks, and all community members, veterans and families of those serving in the armed forces are welcome to attend.

Because of construction of the new Science and Engineering Building, please enter at the B Wing and park in lot 4 or 5 to access the Willow Lake site outside the Main Lobby.
