Memorial concert honoring composer Daniel Brewbaker set for May 21
One year ago this month, Elgin lost one of its most beautiful souls. But Daniel Brewbaker was not only beloved here in his hometown, he also made a profound impact on the musical world as a whole.
In honor of his memory and his music, Chamber Music on the Fox presents "In Memoriam: Brewbaker & Brahms," an evening of string quartets in honor of and in tribute to Daniel Brewbaker, one of the Fox Valley's great cultural icons.
The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Imago, 216 Prairie St. in downtown Elgin. Tickets are $20, $10 for students.
Music will include Brewbaker's third string quartet, composed for and premiered by the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra's Maud Powell Quartet, as well as Johannes Brahms' second string quartet in A minor. Friends and colleagues will share stories about Daniel and his music. Violinists Isabella Lippi and Eleanor Bartsch, violist Amanda Grimm, and cellist Sara Sitzer will perform the two quartets. A reception open to all patrons will follow the performance.
