New Star Trek Xplore! Camp at CLC features Star Trek experts

Students in grades 7-12 can "boldly go" to explore the world and influence of Star Trek with the expert guidance of College of Lake County sociology professors John and Maria Jose Tenuto. Their new Xplore! Camp, "Star Trek: Resistance is Futile," is being offered July 6-9 by the CLC Center for Personal Enrichment.

John Tenuto received the 2013 Outstanding Full-time Faculty award and has given dozens of public presentations and media interviews on the sociology of the "Star Trek" film and television shows.

Star Trek: Resistance is Futile (Grades 7-12) (course CEXP 85): In this fun, interactive camp, students will delve into Star Trek's history, amazing characters and innovative view of the future to explore Star Trek's sociological and technological influences. Students will enjoy discussion, games and project creation.

The camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., July 6-9 at the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The cost is $225.

Another space related Xplore! camp, "NASA Space Science and Astronomy Camp" for grades 2-4 and grades 5-8 will be held June 22-25 at the Grayslake campus. The cost is $175.
