Outlook

It’s a star-laden field at Bonnie Brook as the field includes defending Class AA state champion Prospect and 2010 individual state champion Stephanie Miller of Stevenson, who is coming off her fourth straight regional crown. Plus more than half of the teams in the field finished in the top 10 at state a year ago with 2011 runner-up New Trier (second), Highland Park (third), Loyola (fifth) and Fremd (10th). The Knights are not strangers to the Bonnie Brook par-72 layout, where they scored a 336 to finish second behind Hinsdale Central (315) on Sept. 8. That meet was won by the Illinois-bound Miller, who shot a 72 to finish ahead of Barrington’s Heather Ciskowski (76). Ally Scaccia (3 birdies) shot a team-low 81 for the Knights that day, followed by Kiley Walsh (82), Noreen Caporusso (83) and Isabella Flack (87). Coach Jim Hamann has the Knights coming off their third straight regional crown. They’ve won sectionals in 2001 and 2010. It has been a record-setting season for Prospect, which scored a school-record 297 when it won the Barrington regional last Wednesday. Noreen Caporusso’s score of 70 was also a school record followed by Walsh’s 71. Hamann will be quite familiar with one other coach in the field. His brother Jeff directs the Maine South program. Fremd coach Christine Vlaming has guided the Vikes to their second straight appearance in a sectional after winning a regional last season. Fremd lost by only 2 strokes to Prospect in a nine-hole Mid-Suburban League dual meet and was runner-up to Prospect in the conference meet at the Buffalo Grove Golf Course. Fremd earned the second spot at the Barrington regional while coach Matt Myers’ Bison were third, qualifying for the sectional for the second straight season. BG’s Grace Kil is hoping to get back to the state finals after finishing fourth last year. The senior tied for fourth with St. Viator senior Dana Gattone in the Barrington regional. Gattone helped lead Viator to the East Suburban Catholic Conference championship this fall. Rounding out the five MSL schools in the field are coach Jon Rowley’s Elk Grove Grenadiers and Megan Teschner’s Conant Cougars. Their teams were second and third respectively behind Maine South at the Hoffman Estates regional. Cougars senior Jackie Halden shot an 81 to win medalist honors over the 5,313-yard, par 70 layout at the Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club while Elk Grove’s Katie DeMeulenaere was the runner-up with an 82.
