New dean ready to serve at Oakton CC

Ÿ The Oakton Community College board of trustees hired Adam Hayashi as dean of the college's division of Science and Health Careers.

Hayashi, who grew up in Oakton's district, currently serves as dean of the College of Central Florida's Citrus Campus in Lepanto. He received a bachelor's degree in wildlife and fisheries science from Texas A&M University, a master's in physiology from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Florida, Gainesville.

In his new post, Hayashi will provide direction for eight departments, including biological sciences, physical sciences, physical education, nursing, basic burse assistant training, health information technology, medical laboratory technology, and physical therapist assistant. The division offers 19 degree and certificate programs, ranging from horticultural therapy and phlebotomy to radiologic technology, earth science, and more.

Ÿ NanoProfessor, a division of Nanolnk Inc. focused on nanotechnology education, welcomed Da In Lee, a biology student at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and Troy Blume, who is working toward an associate degree in applied science at Harper College in Palatine, as NanoProfessor lab technician interns this summer.

Lee and Blume will receive hands-on training to learn the fundamentals for building custom-engineered nanoscale structures, while working with state-of-the-art equipment.
