Thursday's Fox Valley roundup

The Crystal Lake South girls soccer team scored two second-half goals Thursday to upset No. 13 seed Maine South 3-1 and advance to Saturday's quarterfinals in the Pepsi Showdown.

Ashley Ross, Karley Mecko, and Mackenzie Taldone all registered a goal for the Gators (4-2) while Kali Loescher added an assist. Elizabeth Quinn turned away 7 shots on goal to lead the Gators to victory.

South will now take on Lyons Township on Saturday in the quarterfinals at Olympic Park in Schaumburg at a time to be determined.

Jacobs 2, Lakes 1: The Golden Eagles (2-5) were able to get on the board first and then add an insurance goal to hold on to a victory over Lakes in the consolation bracket of the Pepsi Showdown. Katie Sherman found the back of the net in the 44th minute off a feed from Kristin Smith to take an early second-half lead. Monica Ramirez then scored the game winner in the 56th minute on an assist from Margaret Rivera. Alyssa Barnard and Alex Williams combined for 7 saves in goal to earn the victory.

York 3, Cary-Grove 2: The Trojans (4-4) suffered a tough loss at the Pepsi Showdown as they were defeated by York. Korey Kronforst got the Trojans on the board off a feed from Taylor Mahoney and Mary Schneider scored the Trojans second goal of the game on an assist from Liz Bart.

Burlington Central 7, Byron 0: The Rockets (3-1-2), scored early and often as they upended Byron on the road. Catherine Kaynish and Madalene Stoneman led the Rockets with 2 goals and an assist each while Camille De La Cruz (3 assists), Jessica Martinez (1 assist), and Erica Heissler recorded Central's other 3 goals of the match.

St. Charles North 7, Larkin 0: The Royals were unable to find the back of the net as they were shut out in Upstate Eight Conference play at home. Dianna Hernandez recorded 12 saves in goal for the Royals.

South Elgin 6, Elgin 1: Kelsey Fitzpatrick scored twice as South Elgin knocked off Elgin in Upstate Eight action. Taylor Schulze, Dana McElwaine, Alyssa Gemein and Erica Williams each added goals for the Storm with Danielle Lauber assisting on 2 goals and Lindsey Helton on one. Emily Young had 3 saves in goal for South Elgin. Melissa Roberts scored Elgin's only goal off an assist from Mohemi Farfan.

Streamwood 1, Rochelle 0: Brianna Spike scored the only goal of the game to lift the Sabres to a win at the West Aurora tournament. Brianna Ropp registered 16 saves in goal for Streamwood.

Neuqua Valley 2, Bartlett 1: Nicole Gobbo scored off an assist from Erin Zaideman in the first half but Bartlett (7-3, 1-1) couldn't manage another goal in losing this Upstate Eight Conference game in Naperville.
